Questions and Answers from NSA's - Article 9 |

Covers a wide variety of topics. Make sure you read them all to get all the information. by Victoria Ring---Bio Dear Victoria: I have been listed in your Nationwide Notary Directory since May 17th 2005 for the New York City area. I was very pleased to see my name in your directory until few minutes ago when I saw that I am appearing on Google search, I almost had a heart attack -- along with my address and my phone number. I like to keep my information confidential. I wish to discontinue my membership IMMEDIATELY in order to remove my name from Google search. None of the other notary organizations I belong to shows up on Google search except Nationwide Notary Directory/50 State. -- Yvonne Dear Yvonne: I have never received a complaint like this one. Most people want to be listed on search engines. In fact, 100s of people sell reports, books and other materials that teach people how to get listed at the top of search engines. Being listed on a search engine provides you with more exposure for your company and this is what marketing on the internet is all about. If you don't want your home address to appear in a listing or on the internet -- then why are you using it? Why are you providing it on forms you fill out on the internet? If you want to keep information confidential the first step is NOT to provide it to anyone. I suggest you get a PO Box to use for the internet so you can protect your home address from appearing on search engines in the future. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Victoria: In your newsletter you answer a lot of question about your biz. I guess my question is, How will I be able to answer the questions asked of my if I'm not a notary? --Reginald Dear Reginald: I guess you wouldn't. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Victoria: Glad to hear about all the activity at the NNA convention. Concern: with the NNA certainly appreciating growth, increasing size, increasing revenues, increasing name recognition, etc., etc., I find it rather amusing and somewhat of an "oxy-moron" (sorry about the spelling if it is not correct) that they do not want any pictures distributed through your huge database of notaries....Their action of censure leads one to believe they must have something to hide????? Yet they still would like more members to join and pay membership fees to pad their economic coffers???? Who knows....maybe they have valid reasons....Regardless, THANKS for all you and Gloria do to keep notaries (like me) informed about the happenings in the industry!! --Mike Dear Mike: I wish I knew the answer as to "why" but the NNA did not allow photos I took at the conference to be distributed on my own website. The email they sent to me stated they saw where I had mentioned in The Notary News that I would be posting photos of the conference. I was told that no photographs could be displayed on the 50 State Notary website because the conference was controlled by the NNA and they are the only one authorized to release photos. No other reason was given and I didn't pursue the matter. Besides, I will have total control over my own workshops and I can put up as many photos and streaming videos as I want. This way, no one will be able to dictate rules and regulations to me again. I could go into a preaching session here about how I feel about others who try to control other people. As you know, I believe in total freedom. I think people should start their own companies, totally control them and make the money they deserve -- not line of the pockets of the wealthy. So don't be too sad. Everything worked out for the best anyway. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Victoria: I am not able to attend your training class. I am interested in training to market my loan signing skills. (Name Withheld) Dear Subscriber: It amazes me that some people will email me with comments like the one above. Immediately I know this person is not serious about their business. If they were, they would be excited about attending a training class or purchasing the DVDs if they are unable to attend if the material is good and will help them. But instead of investing time and money into learning skills that will make them successful, some people don't want to spend any money. Instead, they would rather waste time complaining about the prices of items, get upset if they are charged $2.00 or more for postage and will continually look for something free or a "loop hole" where they can get out of any work and "use" someone else. I have said it time and time and time again -- owning a business is HARD WORK. If you don't want to work harder than you ever have in your life, and you have no money to use for advertising, education and other necessities, then open up your newspaper and find a job working for someone else. Even though it is a lot of hard work to build a business, the rewards are well worth the effort. Only you can put forth that effort. That is not something I can do for you. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Victoria: I read your article showing the NNA's disapproval for some of your great ideas on the book etc. As a consumer to both agencies I would think they would want to promote anything to do with the both of you merely since you would also generate customers for them who would want to come to the show to meet you for one. All of your emailed reports always speak positively about the NNA and I believe if for some reason there was a fall out between the two of you they would not have had such a success on this seminar. You promote so much to their well being advertising on the conference etc. I think it is in their best interest to support you or anyone wanting to do something that may help generate business to you to show we are all on the same team. All other vendors were able to advertise their promotions without being scrutinized. If you paid for a booth as they may have then you should all be treated equally. I wonder if that meant all of us should not have handed out our business cards at their events? I hope in your event (which I look forward to hearing about) that we as experienced notaries are able to get more out of than the NNA's which in my opinion was geared for the new notary not an experienced one. I did gain some knowledge but nothing like what I expected to gain. I thought I would meet more experienced people. Finding out I had more years under my belt than most of the NNA was a disappointment. It was a very nice seminar don't get me wrong there. But I feel strongly that they should have supported your cause a bit more since you work in conjunction, generate free advertising for them months in advance. They must be afraid of competition but I believe you both have differences as well. Most of us that I know enjoy the both of you. Keep up the good work and lets see how your conference does I think it will be fine. I have to say I have never heard anything negative about 50 State Notary. Thanks for the report. --Carla Dear Carla: Thank you for your email of support. I really don't have an answer as to "why" the NNA implemented the rules they did. But I really don't have time to waste on trying to find an answer. Besides, it doesn't matter since I took the idea and decided to start doing my own workshops where I will have no rules and regulations inflicted on me by any organization, person or company again. Yes, my workshops will be very different from the NNA conference. For one thing, I am very down to earth and the audience is always involved throughout the workshop. I try to create an atmosphere where everyone feels relaxed and free to talk and discuss their ideas at any time. I hate workshops where someone stands at a podium, reads their speech and everything is so planned and boring. Instead, every workshop I do is different. I gear the information to the audience and we always have a great time. I hope you get to attend one of my workshops. If not, look for the DVD to be available for purchase after the workshop is over. |
